Black Polyethylene Cement Scraper

Cement Scraper   Bulk international transport of cement often takes place by sea and once it reaches its port of destination, its offloaded using a suction pipe system. However, not all corners of the hold can be reached efficiently by this method alone. This is when a “helping hand” is needed. Using a digger bucket, the “awkward leftovers” are loosened and agitated so that they can be sucked up with the vacuum system. Using a steel bucket against the hull is potentially damaging for the ship, so our client asked if we could emulate a steel scraper and make one from black Polyethylene. The advantages of Polyethylene over steel include being much lighter with much less potential for damaging to the hull. Another benefit of Polyethylene is that it also has really good abrasion resistance and will often outlast steel. Once all dimensions were taken from the steel unit and a cad file produced with appropriate toolpathing, the sheet of PE was first skimmed to thickness using our CNC Mulicam MG flat bed router.Then on the same machine, all the detail including bores for the fixing bolts and the chamfer on both long edges was machined. PTFE Annular section for the Nuclear Industry

A necessary part of the process for handling low level waste in the Nuclear Industry is drying. This is usually done in large vertical drum tanks (total weight about 10 tonnes) which need lowering into place over the special heater rigs. 60mm thick PTFE plate was chosen for the contact pad between the drum and the heater rig in this application. This was because of its temperature capabilities and for its load bearing abilities, as well as its very low coefficient of friction. The load bearing and low friction characteristics, allowed the unit to slide into position without sticking or jamming. PTFE is also used in Bridge Bearings (yes modern bridges often have bearings) as a means of allowing the bridge to expand and contract. You may have seen the “saw tooth” joints in elevated sections of motorway. At the foot of the elevated section or bridge you will often find bespoke pad bearings which both support the bridge and allow it to move during expansion and contraction depending on ambient temperature. As a ring section was needed for this PTFE support pad to match the base profile of the drum which contains the nuclear waste, we suggested that in order to save material wastage and money on this project, that annular sections rather than a complete ring were used. This reduced material wastage considerably, with a correspondingly significant reduction in cost to our customer. Engineering Large Gear Wheel   Large  Gear Wheel For The Food Industry made from Black HDPE. The food processing industry can be more demanding than some other industries. Non contamination, hygiene and ease of cleaning are very important factors. When you add to this energy usage, corrosion resistance and reduced noise levels, then it’s easy to see why if a suitable alternative to metals can be found they are ideal for the food industry. Just such a situation arose when a local food processing machinery manufacturing company came to us for a bespoke solution. Using our clients CAD files (although we’re happy to produce them for you), we machined these double sided gears from 40mm thick black Polyethylene plate on our CNC flat bed router. This material has the advantage of being lighter, self lubricating, easier to clean, quieter and not prone to corrosion like metal gears, resulting in less energy being used and less noise being produced, also, because of our machine’s large 3m x 1.5m bed and its eight position rotary tool changer, we are able to machine multiples of an item at any one time, thus reducing the costs to our customer. This and similar industries also use chain guides and wear plates made from this material (see video of chain guides being machined).
